The Queen Elizabeth Country Park Volunteer Ranger Service is open to anyone over the age of 18 who is interested in the conservation of the wildlife and habitats and in helping other people to enjoy the local countryside. Whilst mainly based at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park in Hampshire (and its environs) there are also opportunities to work at other nearby sites
As of january 2011 there is also now a Youth Volunteer Ranger Service available open to anyone between the ages of 13 and 17 inclusive.
Anyone can join from a wildlife expert to a complete novice as training, guidance and support is provided.
There is a vast range of tasks that Volunteers can undertake, from survey and monitoring to habitat management, office based tasks and even just digging a hole!
So in fact whatever your interest and skill level there will always be something for you to get involved in.
More about Volunteering
There is no maximum or minimum amount of time you have to spend volunteering and the tasks undertaken depend upon your own interests and past experience. However we can normally find a task or project to suit most people who are prepared to donate their time to us.
The process of becoming a Volunteer Ranger is simple. After completing and sending us the application form, you will be asked to come along for an informal interview.
When you are enroled as a Volunteer Ranger you will get the help and support of an existing Volunteer or one of the full-time Rangers to guide you through those initial visits and tasks.
We will also provide simple induction training and if you stay we will continue to help you develop your ‘Ranger’ knowledge and skills. The Volunteers meet 4 times a year to discuss tasks and projects, there is also an organizing committee that meets regularly to ensure the smooth running of the Volunteers and plan new projects and fund raising ideas.
The Volunteer Ranger Service also runs a number of social events each year. So you will quickly feel part of the team.
